A Publication Tree defines the broad subject. A branch is a recognisable publishing line within it. A series organises related books, and a volume is an individual work within that series. An edition or format - paperback, hardcover, eBook, audiobook - is a purchasable version of that work. Not every publication uses every level: a standalone title may have no volume number at all.
